Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: DO ALL STUDENTS IN MVSD HAVE ACCESS TO A CHROMEBOOK?

  • Yes. While not all students participate in a 1:1 take-home program with the Chromebooks, all students have access to a Chromebook. Most elementary students have their Chromebook stored at school to ensure that they are charged and ready for the school day. Our Junior High students participate in the 1:1 Take Home program where they take their Chromebooks home to support in their homework and then return with them, each school-day, charged, and ready to go.

Q: MY CHILD'S TEACHER SAYS AN APP I ASKED ABOUT IS "NOT APPROVED FOR STUDENT USE" WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

  • At MVSD, we take student safety very seriously; their digital safety is no exception. Every app teachers use with students are vetted and require approval before using. An app is approved when the app developer/vendor, signs a contract ensuring that they will protect our student data, destroy the data collected once we no longer use their services and ensure they will not sell our student data.

Q: MY CHILD ATTENDS THE JUNIOR HIGH, DOES MY CHILD NEED TO CHARGE THEIR CHROMEBOOK AT HOME?

  • Yes. Students are expected to come to school every day with their Chromebook charged and ready for use.

Q: I BROKE MY CHROMEBOOK, WHAT DO I DO?

  • Tell your teacher. Each school has a process to address Chromebook issues but the best way to get you back online is to notify your teacher of the issue as soon as possible.

Q: HOW DO I CARE FOR THIS CHROMEBOOK?

  • Screen Care: The Chromebook screen can be damaged if subjected to rough treatment.
    • Try not to lean on top of the Chromebook with body weight

    • Refrain from placing heavy textbooks or other items on top of the Chromebook that could put pressure on the screen.

    • Do not place anything on the keyboard before closing the lid (e.g. pens, pencils, notebooks).

    • Do not hold or carry the Chromebook by the corner of the screen or keyboard - THIS WILL CAUSE DAMAGE.

  • Cleaning your Chromebook: Clean the screen with a soft, dry antistatic, or microfiber cloth. Do not use window cleaner or any type of liquid on the Chromebook. You can also use packaged pre-moistened eyeglass lens cleaning tissues to clean the screen.

Q: ARE STUDENTS "PAPER-LESS"? DO THEY DO EVERYTHING ON A CHROMEBOOK?

  • No. Students still have textbooks and may still be required to complete work on paper. The Chromebook is simply a tool to support their education.
